Official Synopsis
In the remote mountains of West Sikkim, a community of yak herders once lived in close relationship with nature, relying on traditional farm ing, local seeds, forest resources, and ancestral knowledge passed down through generations. As modernization, changing policies, and external systems reshape their lives, many of these practices are gradually dis appearing. Through the voices of elders and the reflections of a younger generation, the film examines the consequences of losing cultural and ecological self-reliance.
The film follows a community-led effort to revive traditional knowledge, food sovereignty, and cultural identity. On 14 March 2026, people from five villages gather to create a Lungta, or Wind Horse, from cloth repre senting each village and painted with natural mushroom ink. More than a ceremonial act, it becomes a declaration of unity and resilience. The film is a hopeful exploration of how communities can reconnect with their roots while shaping their own future in a rapidly changing world.
Biography
Before More is Lost is funded by the Balaton Group and supported by advisors at the Stockholm Resilience Centre. The project is co-led with community partners of the Yambong Ecotourism Committee in West Sikkim.
