Official Synopsis
As the Naadam summer festival approaches, horse trainer Amraa and 11-year-old jockey Jantska prepare their stallion for the race. Jantska dreams of becoming a racehorse trainer, but Amraa hesitates to encourage this path, as climate change increasingly threatens their way of life. Set in Mongolia, one of the world’s most vulnerable countries to climate change, the film reveals how even the cherished tradition of horse racing is being impacted. Through the story of Amraa’s family, it portrays the physical and emotional struggles of Mongolia’s broader nomadic communities, offering a perspective on the cultural erosion intensified by climate change.
Biography
Filmmaker(s): Delgerzaya Delgerjargal
Delgerzaya Delgerjargal is a climate and data journalist at Reuters, where she reports on heatwaves with the investigative data team in New York City. While producing this film, she was a 2024 Climate Change Reporting Fellow at the Pulitzer Center. She holds a master’s degree in environmental management from the Yale School of the Environment. Her debut documentary, Herders at the Edge, won Best Short Documentary at the Climate Film Festival in New York (2025), Best Environmental Short Documentary at Italy’s Life After Oil International Film Festival (2025), and a 2025 Covering Climate Now journalism award, selected from over 1,200 entries. Across her work, Delgerzaya centers climate change and elevates the voices of underrepresented communities in the global climate conversation.
